A Tropical Winter

The Golden Oldies have arrived to a rather untropical weather welcome! According to the locals, its cold, a mere 22C, with low cloud and heavy rain.

Golden Oldies arrive!!But the warmth of the welcome by our Fijian family immediately made us feel ‘at home’ and amongst friends. Finally around midnight we were able to get to bed to prepare of our first day. Denise and Linda are off to Basden College to teach ESOL and provide training with students with special needs; Avila, Elaine and Norma are travelling with the Basden Chaplain to meet woman in the squatter settlements around the school; Adele and Heather are off to the Medical Centre; John and Roger are going to the Cathedral -John carrying out bible study teaching and Roger discussing small business opportunities with the Cathedral Dean.

The rest of team are travelling in open-air buses through the showers and mud into Suva city to buy their ‘sulus’. Tonight we hear the stories of a lady ministering to street kids and providing a safety home for these young children; then off to meet the youth of a local church for a ‘jam session’
